Pilot Project for Pavement Markings and Basic Number Plate Installation on Danghyeoncheon Bicycle Path 3.3km... Enables Rapid Response by Accurately Identifying Location in Bicycle Emergency Situations
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has installed location-identifiable pavement markings and post-type number plates along the Danghyeoncheon bicycle path (3.3km) within the district.
The pavement markings assign road names to the 3.3km section of the Danghyeoncheon bicycle path and indicate the current location on the pavement. These markings, measuring 1m wide by 1m long, have been placed at five spots on the ground. The post-type number plates, sized 30cm wide by 42cm long, have been installed at a total of seven locations on both sides of the bicycle path.
The district installed these facilities in response to the recent rise in fuel prices and the spread of well-being culture, especially as more people are choosing to commute by bicycle?a safer and more eco-friendly option compared to enclosed public transportation like buses or subways amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
There is also a benefit in rapid emergency response. According to road safety and traffic data, incidents increased by about 18.1%, from 4,471 cases in 2018 to 5,633 in 2019. When accidents occur on riverside bicycle paths, it is often difficult to provide accurate location information, which hampers emergency response efforts.
The district expects that through this project, in the event of emergencies on bicycle paths, accurate location information can be promptly communicated to fire stations, police stations, and hospitals, enabling faster accident response.
Additionally, since various events are frequently held at Danghyeoncheon, the precise location indicators will help residents easily find gathering spots.
Going forward, the district plans to further improve and expand the installation of road name address guidance facilities to other areas such as Uicheon and Jungnangcheon.
Meanwhile, last October, the district assigned road name addresses and attached phosphorescent building number plates to 205 street vendors, alleviating inconveniences faced by small business owners operating street stalls.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok stated, “In emergency situations, accurate location markings are crucial for quick reporting to police stations, fire stations, and hospitals. We will continue to create an environment where residents can easily find their desired locations through various location marking methods.”
