KOTRA "Entering Myanmar, Ask Anything"

KOTRA "Entering Myanmar, Ask Anything" KOTRA opened the "Myanmar Korea Desk" in Yangon, Myanmar on the 24th. Kwon Pyung-oh, President of KOTRA, is delivering the opening address via video.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] KOTRA has officially launched efforts to support the expansion of trade and investment between Korea and Myanmar. On the 24th, KOTRA opened the "Myanmar Korea Desk" in Yangon, Myanmar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

The Myanmar Korea Desk was established following the memorandum of understanding signed between Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce during the President's state visit to Myanmar in September last year. The desk is set up within "MyanTrade," a trade promotion organization under Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce, and the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) under the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

Located in Yangon, the economic capital, the Myanmar Korea Desk is expected to facilitate business support. Korean KOTRA staff dispatched to Myanmar will work jointly with local MyanTrade and DICA employees to assist businesspeople from both countries.

The Myanmar Korea Desk serves as a one-stop service center to support the expansion of trade and investment between Korea and Myanmar and to resolve difficulties faced by investing companies. Its main functions include ▲supporting new and increased investments by Korean companies in Myanmar ▲addressing challenges faced by companies operating there ▲promoting Myanmar companies' entry into the Korean market. When policy support is needed, solutions will be promptly developed through collaborative channels among Myanmar government ministries.

The opening ceremony held on the 24th in Yangon was attended on-site by a minimal number of people, including Park Bok-young, Chair of the Special Committee on the New Southern Policy, due to COVID-19.

KOTRA President Kwon Pyung-oh stated in a video message, "Among New Southern Policy countries, only India, Vietnam, and Myanmar have dedicated consultation desks for Korean companies," adding, "We will continue to work with local operating agencies to ensure the Korea Desk becomes the center of economic cooperation between Korea and Myanmar."
