Kim Geun-sik: "Parents risking everything for their children's specs don't commit as shameless acts as Jeong Gyeong-sim"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Professor Kim Geun-sik of Gyeongnam National University, who serves as the head of the People Power Party's Songpa-gu district committee, sharply criticized Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Young-chan's remarks on the guilty verdict of Professor Jeong Gyeong-sim of Dongyang University, saying, "Parents who risked everything for their children's credentials were not as shameless as Professor Jeong."

On the 24th, Professor Kim said on Facebook, "Young-chan, my hometown friend, circle friend, and university classmate. No matter what, let's not ignore or hide the truth."

Earlier, Lawmaker Yoon posted on his Facebook, "Even if the forgery of the certificate of commendation and the internship certificate is true, a four-year prison sentence with court detention? If she were not the wife of former Minister Cho, would the court have handed down such a harsh ruling?" He questioned, "Did they place the cross on Professor Jeong on behalf of the parents in this land who risked everything for their children's credentials at that time?"

In response, Professor Kim rebutted Yoon's Facebook post, saying, "Even though the forgery of the certificate of commendation and the internship certificate is true, she denied the crime from beginning to end and instead caused unbearable mental suffering to those telling the truth, which is why she received a four-year prison sentence with court detention." He added, "Even if she were the wife of former Minister Cho, if she had admitted her wrongdoing, repented, and reflected, would the court have handed down such a harsh ruling?"

Professor Kim pointed out, "Even the 'chimatbaram' (mothers' fierce advocacy) parents who risked everything for their children's credentials at that time in this land did not commit such shameless acts," and questioned, "Is Professor Jeong pretending to be a martyr of prosecutorial reform by playing the role of carrying the cross?"

He further stated, "That certificate of commendation is clear evidence that she deprived powerless and unconnected examinees, who only committed the 'crime' of studying hard, of the ladder of fairness," and urged Lawmaker Yoon, "I sincerely hope you come to your senses."
