[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] Amid growing outrage and controversy online over a YouTube channel posting videos of capturing and abusing cats, it has now been reported that content threatening to kill cats has also been posted.
Recently, as police investigations and public criticism intensified over the cat abuse videos, the original problematic posts had already been deleted online.
However, an anonymous informant captured and revealed the original posts before deletion. Posts made under four different nicknames from the 4th until recently contained methods of killing cats, actual experiences of killing, and content encouraging abuse and killing.
"Posted and watched Pinky clips 4 times, so I killed 4 neighborhood cats" was the title, with the text stating, "Four neighborhood cats are going to die. Going cat hunting at dawn today using Tylenol and other things."
"Today's Meow Diary 1206" titled post said, "I came out with the purpose of finding a kitten after seeing tips on Ilbe about finding stray cat hiding spots," and added, "I need a more effective way to abuse cats."
In comments exchanged with netizens, replies included, "If you spray something like bleach, will it hurt them?", "Honestly, if you want to cause pain, you shouldn't cut off their air supply," and "I hope they die horribly."
Especially under the title "Cat abuse is fun lol", there was a detailed account of cruelly killing a kitten in front of its mother cat.
Another nickname posted, "Soon I will crush Tylenol and sprinkle it on the cat food," and "Let's see who wins, you or me," along with photos showing the preparation of medicine to feed the cats, implying plans to kill them.
Since abusing animals, the most vulnerable members of society, constitutes a serious social crime, content implying the cruel abuse and killing of cats at any time heightens the gravity of the situation.
Meanwhile, recently a YouTuber posted videos abusing multiple cats in different ways, prompting police to launch an investigation.
Additionally, a petition titled "Request for investigation and punishment of the stray cat abuse YouTuber" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
Earlier this year in January, a man in his 50s who brutally killed two cats was sentenced to prison and taken into custody in court.
With a series of brutal animal abuse cases, calls for amending the Animal Protection Act and strengthening punishments for abusers are growing louder.
