Gyeongbuk Province Leading the 'Social Economy'... 30% of Top-Rated Companies Concentrated in Gyeongbuk Chart of Growth and Development of Social Economy in Gyeongbuk during the 7th Local Government Term.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 23rd that six social enterprises in Gyeongbuk received the 'Excellent' grade in the '2020 Social Value Creation Outstanding Companies' measurement evaluation conducted by the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency.

Among 301 social enterprises nationwide that participated in this evaluation, 21 companies across the country received the 'Excellent' grade by scoring 90 points or higher out of 100 using the Social Value Index (SVI), a social value measurement tool. By region, there were six in Gyeongbuk, seven in Seoul, two in Jeonnam, and one each in Ulsan, Busan, Gangwon, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongnam.

In the 2019 measurement last year, only seven social enterprises nationwide received the 'Excellent' grade. Among them, two were social enterprises in Gyeongbuk.

This year, 23 social enterprises in Gyeongbuk participated in the social value measurement, and 12 companies received 'Outstanding' or higher grades (6 Excellent, 6 Outstanding). In particular, Gyeongbuk Social Enterprise General Trading Company (Cooperative) and Food & Design Cooperative were selected for the 'Excellent' grade for two consecutive years following 2019.

Gyeongbuk Province's own evaluation states that such achievements by Gyeongbuk social enterprises are rare even nationwide. Especially, Gyeongbuk Social Enterprise General Trading Company, which started activities in 2016 as the nation's first general trading company supporting social enterprises, achieved the nation's highest social economy market support performance of 24 billion KRW in 2019.

Gyeongbuk Province has steadily pursued a specialized social economy strategy unique to Gyeongbuk centered on value, and in July, it also won the 'Grand Prize' in the 'Local Government Social Economy Policy Evaluation.'

Based on the remarkable growth achieved through the triad of private leadership, administrative support, and active communication, on November 18, the Hwaebak Convention Center in Gyeongju City was finally selected as the venue for the '4th Korea Social Economy Expo' to be held in July 2022.

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, emphasized, "We will nurture Gyeongbuk's social enterprises into the nation's top outstanding companies by integrating social economy oriented toward value economy and Gyeongbuk Province's value-centered administration to overcome local extinction."
