The Nation's First Cloud-Based 'Hospital Information System' Introduced at Korea University Medical Center

Government Invests 20 Billion Won for Development... Domestic and International Hospital Distribution and Expansion Project
"Expected Efficient Management of Outpatient, Inpatient Care, and Medical Data in Hospitals"

The Nation's First Cloud-Based 'Hospital Information System' Introduced at Korea University Medical Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The government will apply the cloud-based 'Hospital Information System (P-HIS)' developed to efficiently utilize medical data for the first time in Korea at Korea University Medical Center (Anam). P-HIS is a platform developed in 38 standard module units covering various hospital tasks such as outpatient care, inpatient care, and administration, enabling the collection, analysis, and utilization of medical data.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a P-HIS introduction ceremony on the morning of the 23rd at Yukwangsa Hall, Korea University College of Medicine. Since 2017, the government has been investing about 20 billion KRW until next year to develop the cloud-based P-HIS and promote its distribution and expansion to domestic and international hospitals. The development of P-HIS involved six medical institutions centered on Korea University Medical Center and eight ICT companies including Samsung SDS and Bit Computer.

The government explained, "P-HIS is developed based on cloud technology, which can reduce initial construction costs," adding, "It is easy to operate and maintain the system, apply various additional medical information, and quickly develop new services."

P-HIS provides additional services such as 'Mobile Electronic Medical Records (EMR)', 'Personal Health Record System (PHR)' that collects and manages health data like patients' body temperature and blood pressure, and 'Intelligent Point of Care (PoC)'. Mobile EMR supports medical staff to check various patient medical data in real-time when visiting inpatient rooms for treatment. PHR allows remote health management of patients and is also utilized in COVID-19 residential treatment centers. Intelligent PoC offers inspection services based on the latest treatment standards to prevent duplicate prescriptions or tests and suggest personalized treatments.

Jang Seok-young, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, urged, "Please ensure that P-HIS is widely spread to establish a foundation for the public to receive a higher level of medical services." Lee Sang-heon, head of the P-HIS project group at Korea University Medical Center, said, "The distribution and expansion of P-HIS is very important to build a national-level big data precision medicine ecosystem," adding, "Starting with Anam Hospital, we will sequentially introduce P-HIS to Guro Hospital and Ansan Hospital and expand it to other hospitals."
