[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Homeplus announced on the 22nd that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Energy Agency to jointly promote the 'Appropriate Temperature Campaign' to spread the culture of environmental conservation and energy-saving practices.
The Appropriate Temperature Campaign is designed to encourage low-carbon living and respond to the climate crisis by setting the appropriate indoor temperature at 20 degrees Celsius during winter. At 482 stores nationwide, including large marts and express stores, the appropriate indoor temperature of 20 degrees will be set and practice stickers will be attached.
Energy-saving activities such as using high-efficiency energy products within stores, replacing lighting with light-emitting diode (LED) lights, installing smart plugs, and heating with doors closed will be promoted. Joint promotional activities with the Korea Energy Agency will also be carried out to encourage citizen participation using customer checkout counters and promotional platforms. In addition, Homeplus and the Korea Energy Agency will conduct energy diagnostics, energy-saving consulting, and working-level meetings in the future.
Kim Chang-seop, Chairman of the Korea Energy Agency, said, “As energy consumption at home increases due to external factors such as COVID-19 and cold waves, we hope that setting the appropriate indoor temperature will become a daily habit,” adding, “We will create a culture of efficient energy consumption through close cooperation with Homeplus.”
Shin Geon-ho, Executive Director of External Policy at Homeplus, said, “We joined this campaign to contribute to spreading an eco-friendly culture by leveraging the characteristics of distribution companies that are in direct contact with customers,” and added, “We will continue to share proper energy usage methods that can be practiced in daily life with customers to support environmental conservation and energy saving.”
