Adjustment of In-Person School Days Across the Seoul Metropolitan Area

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), 9,417 kindergartens, elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools across 15 cities and provinces have switched to remote classes.
According to the Ministry of Education, as of 10 a.m. on the 22nd, the number of schools adjusting in-person classes decreased by 215 from 9,632 schools the previous day. Although 39 schools adjusted in-person classes, 251 schools were excluded from the count due to vacation.
By region, all schools located in the Seoul metropolitan area adjusted in-person classes. All 415 schools in Ulsan and all 318 schools in Jeju switched to remote classes. Additionally, 95 schools in Seosan, Chungnam, and 57 schools in Jecheon, Chungbuk, closed their doors.
The number of confirmed cases among students and staff continues to rise. As of midnight on the same day, confirmed student cases increased by 56. Confirmed staff cases increased by 7.
