[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Daegu City won the Presidential Award as the first place in the revenue increase category at the '2020 Local Finance Best Practice Presentation Contest' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Accordingly, it secured a financial incentive of 250 million KRW in local allocation tax (50% each for the city headquarters and Dong-gu).
According to Daegu City on the 22nd, the Local Finance Best Practice Presentation Contest has been held annually since 2008 to share best practices such as expenditure reduction and revenue increase among 243 local governments nationwide.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety received a total of 255 submissions from local governments nationwide this year, selected 35 best practices through preliminary rounds by category, and the final ranking of the top 10 was decided through a video presentation evaluation (December 17).
The case presented by Dong-gu on behalf of Daegu City, "License Plate Seizure Enforcement Using Big Data," is a model case that systematically analyzed and utilized big data accumulated over several years related to license plate seizures, increasing the collection of delinquent payments.
Kim Jeong-gi, Director of Planning and Coordination Office of Daegu City, said, "Winning every year at a nationwide competition is the result of the passionate and continuous efforts of Daegu City tax officials," adding, "We will continue to actively discover and disseminate such best practices nationwide and strive to expand local finances as a foundation for local decentralization."
Meanwhile, Daegu City has consistently submitted cases to the 'Local Finance Best Practice Presentation Contest' every year since 2010 and has won the revenue increase category for 11 consecutive years. As a result, the local allocation tax received as a financial incentive amounts to 3.35 billion KRW.
