[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza announced on the 22nd that H5-type avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected at a breeding duck farm located in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The farm is raising approximately 6,000 breeding ducks, and also raising 90,000 quails on the same farm. On that day, the Gyeonggi Animal Hygiene Laboratory detected the H5 antigen during routine surveillance and inspection of the farm, and stated that detailed testing is currently underway. The determination of whether it is highly pathogenic is expected to be available within 1 to 3 days.
Immediately after the detection of the H5 antigen, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters dispatched an initial response team to the site to control access to the farm, conduct epidemiological investigations, and impose movement restrictions as well as surveillance and detailed inspections on farms within a 10 km radius.
A representative from the Headquarters urged, "Farm owners must strictly implement the application of slaked lime and changing boots, and immediately report to the quarantine authorities if any abnormalities are observed in the poultry being raised."
