Park Chun-hee "If I become Seoul Mayor, I will form a special investigation team for the Park Won-soon case... Ahn Cheol-soo will definitely lose"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Songpa District Mayor Park Chun-hee, who declared her candidacy for Seoul mayor, announced that if she becomes the mayor of Seoul, she will form a special investigation team regarding the sexual harassment allegations against the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon. She criticized Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, who recently declared his candidacy, saying he is "the person who caused the late Mayor Park’s election victory" and predicted he would inevitably lose.

At a press conference on the 22nd, former Mayor Park said, "(If I become Seoul mayor) I will conduct a thorough investigation into all suspicions, including 'Why did Mayor Park Won-soon have to die?', his sexual harassment, and the complicity and encouragement of sexual harassment by current and former Seoul city employees, and hold those responsible accountable according to the results."

She added, "The pain and suffering of the victims are not theirs alone," emphasizing that "Seoul citizens must share the pain and make efforts to find solutions and preventive measures so that a 'second Park Won-soon sexual violence incident' does not occur."

Regarding Ahn Cheol-soo, she stated, "When you think of the late Mayor Park, the names Oh Se-hoon and Ahn Cheol-soo naturally come to mind. These two individuals either caused or greatly helped Mayor Park’s election victory," and criticized, "Also, Ahn contributed to the division of the opposition in the 2017 presidential election, which led to the election of President Moon Jae-in."

Former Mayor Park expressed concern, saying, "I worry that this candidacy declaration will once again play a major role in dividing the opposition," and added, "Ahn is a candidate destined to lose, and he is already a candidate who has been thoroughly scrutinized and evaluated by the public."
