[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 22nd that it held a performance presentation for the university sports academic management support program, which helps improve academic ability and adapt to school life through academic management support for student athletes.
Gwangju University, the only university in the Honam region selected for the '2020 University Sports Academic Management Support Program Operation Support Project,' has carried out various activities over the past year with 50 student athletes and 10 professional tutors.
The student athletes who participated in this program presented their experiences and improvement directions regarding ▲support for school life ▲basic competency and academic management ▲academic ability improvement at the performance presentation.
Based on the contents of the performance presentation, Gwangju University plans to take the lead in creating a healthy university sports environment by comprehensively reviewing the operation, utilization methods, and improvements of the tutoring program.
In particular, measures for face-to-face and non-face-to-face classes due to the spread of COVID-19 will also be prepared and implemented.
Kim Sang-yeop, head of the Physical Education Department at Gwangju University, said, “Student athletes’ academic achievement has improved and university life has been greatly helped through the tutor-tutee program,” adding, “We will do our best to provide practical help by regularly conducting academic, career, and employment counseling.”
Meanwhile, the 'University Sports Academic Management Support Program Operation Support Project,' hosted by the Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF) and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, is a project that supports tutoring programs for university athletes to adapt to school life and perform academically.
This year, 11 universities nationwide, including Gwangju University, Korea University, and Kyung Hee University, were selected.
