Improvement of 40 Hub Facilities, Installation of Over 90 Free Optical Cables
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 22nd that the high-speed internet network construction project in remote mountainous areas, which began in August, has been completed.
Through this, single houses in remote mountainous areas and villages that previously could not access the internet or had low-speed internet can now use the internet at high speeds.
Boseong-gun installed optical cables supporting speeds up to 1Gbps in about 40 locations, including villages that were slow and frequently malfunctioned due to the use of existing telephone lines, and also installed free optical cables in about 90 locations that were far from the villages and had to install cables at their own expense, reducing the burden on residents.
With the installation of this high-speed internet network, Boseong-gun expects to improve residents' access to information, eliminate information inequality, and create a future-oriented living environment through the internet network construction, such as smart farms, security CCTV operation, and remote classes.
County Governor Kim Cheol-woo said, “Next year, we will build a high-speed internet network in island villages such as Jiju-do to bridge the digital divide for island residents who have been marginalized in the information and communication sector, and actively utilize it in residents' lives such as agriculture.”
Meanwhile, the high-speed internet installation project is being promoted as a matching fund (1:1:3) by the Ministry of Science and ICT, Jeollanam-do, and KT Corporation.
