[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Soo-young, a member of the People Power Party, expressed doubts about the claim that Land Minister nominee Byun Chang-heum spent 200 million won to send his eldest daughter to study in the United States for seven years, criticizing him as "worse than lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang."

On the 22nd, Park linked an article related to nominee Byun on Facebook and said, "I am curious about how leftists send their children to study abroad."

He said, "I thought it was really remarkable that lawmaker Yoon spent a little over 100 million won for three years at expensive music schools in places like Chicago and California," adding, "But nominee Byun spent seven years at the expensive Yale University and University of Chicago, spending 200 million won, which is worse than lawmaker Yoon."

Park said, "I hope he fully discloses that know-how at the hearing. Wouldn't it be a great help to mothers who want to send their children to study abroad?" He added, "Everyone who knows understands that even if you save money, famous private universities in the U.S. cost at least 50 million won per year, with an average of 100 million won annually."

He continued, "What is it about leftists who are anti-American sending their children to study in the U.S.?" and added, "Even if he fails the hearing, he can run a study abroad agency near his home in Bangbae-dong."
