[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 22nd regarding the Serious Accidents Punishment Act (Serious Accidents Act), “The Democratic Party of Korea is expressing as if we are opposing it, but that is not the case at all,” and added, “We will actively work to achieve legislative results within the temporary National Assembly session by January 8 next year.”

At the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Joo said, “Chairman Kim Jong-in and I have said that we will revise the law to reduce serious accidents in industrial sites,” and added, “However, the aspects of the law that constitute over-legislation causing various side effects must be removed.”

Floor Leader Joo emphasized, “Currently, the bereaved families of victims are fasting in protest during the cold winter, urging legislation,” and requested, “I ask the Democratic Party to participate at the discussion table so that a bill subcommittee can be held soon in the relevant standing committee to legislate in accordance with the constitutional system and appropriateness.”

Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, Floor Leader Joo said, “What the public is most concerned about now is when the vaccine will be supplied,” and stated, “President Moon Jae-in should clearly explain how he plans to secure the vaccine.”

Regarding the incident in which Vice Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu assaulted a taxi driver before his appointment and was not punished, Floor Leader Joo said, “I hope President Moon will promptly accept Vice Minister Lee’s resignation and dismiss him,” and criticized, “This incident reveals how the powerful figures of this regime treat ordinary citizens. Grabbing and assaulting an innocent taxi driver by the collar shows that they regard ordinary citizens as dogs and pigs, and that a sense of privilege is underlying their mindset.”
