Around 5800m² at Wonhyo-ro 3-ga 54-5, with a project cost of 870 million KRW... Enhancing green buffer functions to reduce noise and air pollution... Creating walking paths, community spaces, and rainwater gardens
Yongsan-gu has newly developed the green area on the traffic island at the north end of Wonhyo Bridge into a resting place for residents this month.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjang Hyun) has newly transformed the green area on the traffic island located at the northern end of Wonhyo Bridge into a resting place for residents.
The green area on the traffic island had been established a long time ago, resulting in green space damage and aging facilities, making it difficult for residents to use.
Accordingly, the district decided to improve the roadside green environment and recreate a park-type green space within the city.
The target site covers an area of 5,800m² around 54-5 Wonhyo-ro 3-ga. The project cost 870 million KRW.
The district conducted a project promotion plan and technical feasibility inspection in February, started detailed design in March, began construction in July, and completed the work earlier this month.
A district official said, “This project focused on repairing aging facilities and increasing the amount of urban green space to strengthen the buffering function of greenery against noise and air pollution.”
First, the soil within the green area was replaced and a green foundation was established. Then, poor and hazardous trees such as female ginkgo trees were removed, flower beds were created along the edges of the bare land within the green area, and trees were planted.
A health resting area was created for residents. The existing sidewalks, which were old and difficult for residents to use, were improved with pavement work for walking paths. To prevent pedestrian safety accidents, unnecessary structures in the park were removed, and strength training and stretching equipment were installed.
A community space and central cultural plaza were also established. Horizontal resting areas, pergolas, and benches were installed throughout to create communication spaces for residents, and flowering trees such as azaleas and spiraea were planted.
A rainwater garden was newly created. Various plants such as pine trees and mixed herbaceous flowers were planted in a wide space, and a nature-friendly pond space recycling rainwater was created in the center.
Seongjang Hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We have newly created a resting space where people can enjoy parks and natural environments in the city,” and added, “We hope many residents will use and take interest in it.”
