Completion of Asbestos Survey in Taean-gun, Chungnam: 'No Detection'

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The asbestos safety in the Taean-gun area of Chungnam has been confirmed.

The Chungnam Provincial Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 21st that no asbestos components were detected in the recent asbestos survey conducted in the Taean-gun area.

The survey was conducted from February to June at 20 locations in Bangok-ri, Taean-eup, and from July to December at 20 locations in Geunheung-myeon, Taean-gun, targeting air and soil in areas with a high possibility of asbestos distribution, such as around abandoned asbestos mines, to prevent environmental and resident health damage caused by various development activities.

As a result, fibrous materials were detected in the air at some points, but the concentration was very low at 0.001 fibers/cc (standard 0.01 fibers/cc), and none of the six types of asbestos?white asbestos, brown asbestos, blue asbestos, anthophyllite, tremolite, and actinolite?were detected in the soil.

An official from the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment said, “The purpose of the survey is to create a living environment where residents can live with peace of mind,” adding, “The Institute will continue monitoring areas with a high possibility of asbestos content and strive to alleviate residents’ vague anxieties.”
