[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] On the 17th, singer Yoo Seung-jun expressed his disbelief over the "Yoo Seung-jun Prevention 5 Acts" (Nationality Act, Immigration Control Act, Overseas Koreans Act, National Public Officials Act, Local Public Officials Act) proposed by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Byung-joo.

On the 19th, appearing on two monitors with the US flag and the Taegeukgi in the background, Yoo Seung-jun appeared on his YouTube channel and could not hide his anger, saying, "Does this make any sense? Are you kidding me? Are politicians working with the taxes of Korean citizens so idle that they have to do this?"

He continued, "Am I a political criminal? Or have I murdered someone? Am I a sex offender? What exactly is so scary that they are making such a fuss just to block one entertainer named Yoo Seung-jun?"

He raised his voice, saying, "Do I make young people feel disillusioned? Honestly, shouldn't we be more angry and disillusioned seeing the corruption and double faces of politicians working for the country because of Minister Choo Mi-ae's son's imperial leave and the absurd situations involving former Minister Cho Kuk?"

Yoo also added hashtags such as '#ImportantStatement' '#PoliticalStatement' '#ConvictionStatement' '#BitterTruth' to the video.

The bill, proposed by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Byung-joo with the aim of preventing a "second Yoo Seung-jun," contains provisions to firmly restrict entry for those who evade military service by changing nationality, like Yoo.

Specifically, it prohibits the restoration of nationality and entry for men who have lost or renounced their Korean nationality without fulfilling their military service obligations.

It also expands the age limit for overseas Koreans' residency status (F-4) from the current 40 to 45 years old and bans appointment to national and local public official positions up to age 45.

Lawmaker Kim stated, "Young people feel a great sense of disillusionment and loss due to the unfair reality. I hope that through this legal amendment, society will gain confidence in military service."

Previously, Yoo Seung-jun renounced his Korean nationality in 2002 to avoid military service and acquired US citizenship, after which the Ministry of Justice imposed entry restrictions on him.

In 2015, he applied for an overseas Korean visa at the Los Angeles (LA) Consulate General but was denied, leading him to file a lawsuit to cancel the refusal.

After a long legal battle spanning about 20 years, Yoo won at the Supreme Court in March this year, but when the LA Consulate General again refused to issue a visa in July, he filed another administrative lawsuit and continues his legal fight.
