Pompeo: "Russia Quite Likely Involved Behind US Government Hacking Attempts"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated on the 18th (local time) that Russia is behind the recent large-scale cyberattack on the U.S. government.

According to AFP, he appeared on the radio show 'Mark Levin Show' that day and said, "There was an attempt to embed code inside the U.S. government systems using third-party software," adding, "It is quite certain that Russia is involved in this move." Secretary Pompeo had previously hinted at the involvement of Russian intelligence agencies on the 14th.

Recently in the U.S., the hacking damage has spread significantly as major government agencies and even Microsoft (MS) were breached in a large-scale cyberattack. Although U.S. investigative authorities have not publicly identified Russia as the culprit, speculation about Russia's involvement has circulated.

However, the Russian government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the allegations of being behind the hacking controversy are "groundless."
