Overview of Activities of 199 Public Interest Corporations at a Glance
Media SR, an internet economic newspaper highlighting social responsibility activities, jointly published the '2021 Korea Public Interest Corporations White Paper' with PSR (Public Institution Social Responsibility Research Institute) on the 17th.
The '2021 Korea Public Interest Corporations White Paper' is a comprehensive resource spanning 487 pages, covering the activity status of a total of 199 major domestic public interest corporations, including leading corporate public interest corporations, IT and financial public interest corporations, and the top 10 large charitable public interest corporations.
The white paper includes various statistical analysis data and business-related information regarding major business areas, financial status, and growth potential of corporate and charitable public interest corporations, based on the 2020 National Tax Service settlement disclosures and Media SR’s coverage and interviews, making it highly valuable as a reference.
For corporate group public interest corporations, the white paper contains the operational status and business details of 47 major public interest corporations designated by the Fair Trade Commission among large corporate groups, IT, and financial groups.
The 47 major public interest corporations by group include leading domestic companies such as Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK, LG, Lotte, GS, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanjin Group, CJ, Doosan, LS, Booyoung, Daelim, Mirae Asset Group, as well as Kumho Asiana, Hyundai Department Store, Kakao, Kyobo Life Insurance, Harim, Youngpoong, HDC Hyundai Development Company, Kolon, OCi, E-Land, Dongbu, SeAH, SM Group, and Taeyoung.
Additionally, activities of Naver, Nexon, Korea Technology Group, Hoban, Celltrion, Joongheung Construction, Netmarble, Amorepacific, Dongwon, Samchully, Taekwang, Shinhan Financial Group, KB Financial Group, Hana Financial Group, Woori Financial Group, NongHyup, KDB Industrial Bank, IBK Industrial Bank, and BNK Financial Group are also included.
The top 10 major charitable public interest corporations detail the activities and status of the top 10 organizations with the highest donation fundraising performance based on the 2019 National Tax Service announcement. The records include Good Neighbors International, World Vision, Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, UNICEF, Korea Compassion, Save the Children, Korea Food for the Hungry International, Holt Children’s Services, Milal Welfare Foundation, and Children and Future Foundation.
In particular, the corporate public interest corporation major business content provided separately allows readers to check the main details of the top three purpose projects where each of the 199 individual corporate public interest corporations spent the most business expenses.
Moreover, the white paper appendix includes contributions from Professor Jinwoo Kim of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Executive Director Ilseok Kim of the Korea Public Interest Corporation Association on contentious issues related to the establishment of the Public Interest Committee and amendments to the Fair Trade Act.
The white paper also contains discussion and keynote lecture materials from experts who participated in related events such as the Public Interest Corporation Transparency Forum and the Healthy Contribution Culture Awards of Korea, organized by Media SR, making it a specialized book on Korea’s public interest corporations.
A Media SR official emphasized, "It allows a comprehensive understanding of the business content of major public interest corporations actively contributing in various fields such as welfare, medical care, culture, academia, and education."
Media SR CEO Joongyeon Jeon said, "The 2021 Public Interest Corporations White Paper broadly covers the activities and areas of interest of not only corporations but also financial, IT, and major charitable public interest corporations based on planned coverage. This white paper will sufficiently serve as a compass for corporations and charitable public interest corporations exploring collaboration targets."
Meanwhile, the 'Korea Public Interest Corporations White Paper' published by Media SR last year was the only social science book related to social contribution selected for the 2020 'Sejong Books General Knowledge Category' in July.
