Foreigners' History Experience Program 'Star of Independence, from Seodaemun to the World' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 17th that it received the Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Award for the program "Star of Independence, From Seodaemun to the World" in the ‘2020 Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Excellence Project’ evaluation by the Cultural Heritage Administration (Administrator Jeong Jae-sook).
The Cultural Heritage Administration selected and awarded 25 projects out of a total of 385 projects nationwide, funded by the national government this year, across five categories (▲Cultural Heritage Night ▲Vivid Cultural Heritage ▲Hyanggyo and Seowon Cultural Heritage ▲Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage ▲Old Houses and Jongga Houses).
Among them, the district was honored with an award in the ‘Vivid Cultural Heritage Project’ category. Among the 25 local governments nationwide that received awards this year, Seodaemun-gu is the only autonomous district in Seoul.
This year, Seodaemun-gu conducted a historical experience program for foreigners at the Seodaemun Prison History Hall in collaboration with the social enterprise Funday Korea Networks.
With a diverse lineup including a mini-concert singing about independence, reenactments of historical period dramas, and letter writing to independence activists, it offered a special experience to feel the spirit of independence of our ancestors from over 100 years ago.
In 2021, the district was again selected as a recipient of the Cultural Heritage Administration’s ‘Vivid Cultural Heritage Project’ support and plans to continue conducting experience programs, performances, and non-face-to-face events for foreigners at the Seodaemun Prison History Hall.
