Duzon Bizon "Full-Scale Launch of 'Precision Medical Big Data Project' with Samsung Seoul Hospital"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Samsung Seoul Hospital and Duzon Bizon announced on the 16th that they held a ‘Precision Medicine Big Data Artificial Intelligence (AI) Industry Leading Agreement Ceremony’ at the Duzon ICT Group Gangchon Campus with a consortium including 10 hospitals, 4 ICT medical solution companies, pharmaceutical companies, and universities for the ‘Precision Medicine Big Data Service Platform Construction Project’ promoted by Gangwon Province.


Starting with the agreement ceremony, Samsung Seoul Hospital and Duzon Bizon will fully launch the precision medicine big data project.


Samsung Seoul Hospital and Duzon Bizon were selected as project operators for the ‘Gangwon Province Precision Medicine Big Data Service Platform Construction Project.’ This project is being carried out with a total budget of 26.7 billion KRW, with Gangwon Province providing 14.4 billion KRW in support and participating companies including Duzon Bizon investing 12.3 billion KRW through in-kind contributions and other methods. The project aims to develop Gangwon Province into a hub for the precision medicine big data industry, a core sector of the 4th industrial revolution. Duzon Bizon plans to apply its latest ICT technologies such as big data, AI, cloud, and blockchain to the precision medicine platform, and on the 15th, it signed an MOU with Samsung Seoul Hospital related to this.


This agreement ceremony was arranged as part of the ‘DATA FIRST! Gangwon Big Data Forum 2020’ event, held simultaneously online and offline on the same day by Gangwon Province, the National Information Society Agency, Duzon Bizon, and Kangwon National University. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the event was conducted in a hybrid format. Minimal personnel attended the ceremony in person, including Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province; Lee Jae-su, Mayor of Chuncheon; Han Ki-ho, Member of the National Assembly; Kim Heon-young, President of Kangwon National University; Kim Yong-woo, Chairman of Duzon ICT Group; Ko Sang-baek, Director of Research at Wonju Severance Christian Hospital; Seo Kwang-hee, Head of Healthcare Solution Business Division at Duzon Bizon; and Song Ho-cheol, CEO of the Platform Business Division at Duzon Bizon.


Online participants included Lee Gyu-sung, Vice President of Research at Samsung Seoul Hospital; Lee Seung-jun, Director of Kangwon National University Hospital; Kim Tae-gon, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Bundang CHA Hospital; Jung Hoon-jae, Director of Bumin Hospital; Shin Sang-chul, CEO of Ewha Diagnostics; Lee Chang-jae, Vice President of Daewoong Pharmaceutical; Song Seung-jae, CEO of Life Semantics; Koo Tae-eon, Lawyer at Law Firm Lin; Heo Ki-jun, CEO of Bplus Lab; Bin Jun-gil, CEO of Neurofit; and Kim Hyun-gap, CEO of DQ, among other consortium participants.


Gangwon Province aims to establish a foundation for collecting high-quality medical data involving numerous large hospitals through this precision medicine big data service platform construction. Based on this, it is expected to provide pharmaceutical companies, medical solution companies, and startups with various medical data such as clinical, genomic, medical imaging, and life log data, as well as AI technologies for data analysis and cloud-based services.


Samsung Seoul Hospital, leading the consortium, expects to contribute to public welfare by driving big data-based medical innovation through this project, aiding in the treatment of severe and rare diseases and extending the healthy lifespan of the population. Recently, it became the first domestic hospital to receive the highest grade ‘Platinum Class’ for the CDW prescription database in the data quality certification review by the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency, which is expected to significantly enhance the level of precision medicine platform construction.


Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province, stated, “We will actively support Gangwon Province to lead the AI industry based on precision medicine big data,” adding, “Furthermore, we will contribute to the activation of the precision medicine big data industry, ecosystem expansion, and talent development.”
