[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 16th, Daegu City announced that 64 companies in the Daegu area were newly selected for the '2020 Family-Friendly Company and Institution Certification' project organized by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. As a result, the total number of family-friendly certified companies and institutions in the region has increased to 134.
The 'Family-Friendly Certification System' is a system in which the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family reviews and certifies public institutions and companies that exemplary operate family-friendly systems such as childbirth and child-rearing support, flexible working hours, and the creation of a family-friendly workplace culture.
Daegu City has steadily promoted the expansion of family-friendly certification to enhance corporate competitiveness and realize work-life balance for workers, raising interest among companies and citizens in family-friendliness and work-life balance.
In particular, despite the rapid spread of COVID-19 this year, a total of 64 companies (28 new, 22 extension of validity, 14 re-certifications) were selected, achieving results exceeding the target (60 companies). Family-friendly certified companies and institutions in Daegu started with the credit guarantee fund certification in 2010, and up to this year, a total of 134 companies have been certified, an increase of 21.8% compared to 110 companies last year.
In the early stages of the certification system, many public institutions applied, but recently, as participation from small and medium-sized enterprises has increased, various welfare systems such as in-house club activities, paternity leave for men, and flexible working hours have been implemented.
Daegu City provides a total of 58 various incentives to family-friendly certified companies and institutions, including a three-year deferral of local tax audits, preferential interest rates from major financial institutions, support for cultural activities, and grievance counseling.
Daegu City plans to support family-friendly management of local companies and institutions through discovering new incentives, consulting, briefings, and various promotional activities with the goal of expanding family-friendly company and institution certifications to 150 companies next year, and will carry out various projects for citizens to practice work-life balance.
Kang Myung-sook, Director of the Women's and Youth Education Bureau of Daegu City, said, "I hope that the family-friendly system will improve the quality of life through work-life balance for workers," and added, "Being certified as a family-friendly company helps strengthen corporate competitiveness and enhance a positive image, so we hope many companies will show interest and participate."
