Notae Moon, head of Samsung Electronics' Mobile Communications Business, officially confirmed the inclusion of the S Pen and the Unpacked event scheduled for January next year, one month ahead of the Galaxy S21 launch. He also indicated that next year the focus will be on enhancing Galaxy’s personalization features and video experience.
On the 16th, Notae Moon, President of Samsung Electronics' Mobile Communications Business, posted an article titled "Samsung Electronics' Technological Innovation Toward a Customized Mobile Experience in 2021" on the newsroom. This is the third article he has published since becoming president.
In his article, President Moon also provided hints about next year’s Galaxy lineup. He said, "We will strive to diversify and popularize the foldable product lineup so that more customers can experience innovative foldable devices," and added, "We plan to expand the Galaxy Note experience, which consumers enjoy the most, to a wider range of products." This officially confirms the plan to equip the S Pen, a distinctive feature of the Galaxy Note series, on the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Z Fold series as well.
On the same day, President Moon officially announced the Unpacked event scheduled for January next year. He said, "We will come back with new news in January next year." Previously, the Unpacked event was held in February and new products were released in early March, but next year the Galaxy S21 launch will be about a month earlier than usual. Typically, the article was published after the Unpacked invitation was sent, but this time the article was released slightly earlier.
With the increase in video production and consumption due to remote work, video conferencing, and social challenges, there will also be a focus on improving the video experience. President Moon explained, "Galaxy smartphones will now be equipped with high-performance, intelligent photo and video shooting capabilities comparable to professional levels," and added, "We will perfectly support the video experience by satisfying diverse demands, from professional video creators to those who want the intelligent camera to handle everything automatically."
Personalization technology that optimizes functions according to user habits based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology will also be expanded. President Moon said, "We are currently dedicating ourselves to research and development to provide ‘on-device AI’ functionality across the Galaxy lineup," and explained, "Galaxy products equipped with AI will learn customers’ daily routines and habits to support better photo and video shooting, and optimize battery, memory, and display according to individual usage patterns. We will further expand this functionality across Galaxy devices."
New technologies will be rapidly applied to various devices and services, and the range of Galaxy connectivity will be expanded using UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology. UWB is a wireless technology that transmits data over a wide range at short distances and is applied to services like 'SmartThings Find,' which locates devices. He said, "You will be able to enjoy a new digital life, such as unlocking doors with your smartphone or connecting your car and smartphone," and added, "In the future, you will be able to easily and quickly find important items like keys or wallets, and even pets."
President Moon emphasized the role of technology and Samsung Electronics' capabilities, stating, "The limits of progress are only restricted by the scope of our imagination," and said, "We will continuously question existing common sense and expand the boundaries of imagination to realize infinite technological advancements. Samsung Electronics’ imagination will have no limits."
