President Moon's Approval in Busan Area: 'Support' 42.7% vs 'Non-support' 53.7%
Support Majority in 30s and 40s, Non-support Majority in 20s and 50s+
Party Support: Democratic Party 30.2% vs People Power Party 32.0% 'Close Race'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] More than half of Busan citizens do not politically support President Moon Jae-in. Party support showed the People Power Party slightly ahead of the Democratic Party of Korea within the margin of error.
According to a public opinion survey conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 12th to 13th targeting 1,020 voters aged 18 or older residing in Busan Metropolitan City (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response), 42.7% responded that they politically support President Moon, while 53.7% responded that they do not support him. The gap between support and non-support was 11.0 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
By gender, 45.3% of women and 40.0% of men responded that they "support" him, showing relatively higher support among women.
By age group, support was dominant among those in their 30s (57.7%) and 40s (52.4%). On the other hand, non-support exceeded half among those in their 20s (53.7%), 50s (58.2%), 60s (64.9%), and 70s or older (59.8%).
By region, non-support exceeded 50% in all areas. The order of non-support responses was Northern Busan (56.6%), Eastern Busan (54.6%), Central Busan (52.4%), and Western Busan (51.6%).
By party support, 89.3% of ruling party Democratic Party supporters responded that they support President Moon, and 79.0% of Open Democratic Party supporters also expressed support. Conversely, 86.5% of People Power Party supporters responded that they do not support him, and 73.4% of People Party supporters also did not support President Moon. Supporters of the Justice Party showed a nearly even split with 51.2% supporting and 48.8% not supporting President Moon.
Party support recorded 30.2% for the Democratic Party and 32.0% for the People Power Party, showing a close race within the margin of error. This was followed by the People Party at 8.1%, Open Democratic Party at 5.9%, and Justice Party at 2.9%. The proportion of non-affiliated voters was 17.3%. When classified into the pro-government bloc (Democratic Party and Open Democratic Party) and opposition bloc (People Power Party and People Party), the combined support for the pro-government parties was 36.1%, showing a disadvantage compared to the opposition bloc at 40.1%.
This survey was conducted from the 12th to 13th targeting voters aged 18 or older residing in Busan Metropolitan City, with an overall response rate of 7.3%, totaling 1,020 respondents. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers. The sample was extracted by applying weighted values (cell weighting) by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of November 2020 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
