[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] KOTRA held an advisory committee discussion on the ‘KOTRA Social Value 3.0 Promotion System’ at its headquarters in Yeomgok-dong, Seoul on the 14th, the organization announced on the 15th. At this discussion, KOTRA presented a citizen-experience-oriented vision and promotion system that creates social value linked to its core business.

KOTRA has established a promotion system to realize social value and manifest public interest desired by the people through selection and concentration in its unique tasks. Through Social Value 3.0, it set four strategic goals: ▲creation of sustainable quality jobs ▲leading inclusive coexistence to overcome crises ▲building an impact ecosystem for socially vulnerable groups ▲management and dissemination of social value.

In particular, this year, KOTRA established directions to lead social value in the new normal era responding to external environmental changes such as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It maximized collective impact through building an open innovation infrastructure and solidarity and cooperation among institutions, and provided free open services for corporate crisis response to COVID-19. Campaigns for public and worker safety and environmental protection are also underway.

KOTRA supports social economy enterprises and small business owners by strengthening customized export capabilities to help global scale-up and foster self-sustainability. By introducing and expanding free services and preferential systems, it is enhancing public interest and increasing corporate accessibility to KOTRA services.

Additionally, KOTRA is resolving the oversupply of domestic masks through ‘premiumization’ utilizing its global network. It is assisting global market entry through collaboration with artists with developmental disabilities, fashion mask companies, and social ventures. A pop-up store will be opened in New York, USA, and charitable donations will be made to local low-income schools.

Meanwhile, to become an institution that meets public demands, KOTRA has appointed experts in the social value field as external advisory committee members to gather opinions. This year, 13 advisory members in areas such as social value strategy, win-win cooperation, and safety were newly appointed.

Kwon Pyung-oh, President of KOTRA, stated, “In the post-COVID era, social value that promotes public interest and community development has become more important in all areas,” and added, “We will continue to create social value that meets public demands in step with the rapidly changing times.”
