[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] The Bandaealgom Ssireum Team of Jeollanam-do Gurye County Office announced on the 14th that they reached the top by sweeping two weight classes, Maehwa class (Lee Yeon-woo) and Gukhwa class (Eom Ha-jin), at the ‘Withus Pharmaceutical 2020 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival’ held for six days from the 8th to the 13th in Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do.

In the Maehwa class, player Gu I-yeon-woo (Gurye County Office) defeated top Maehwa class players such as Yang Yun-seo (Gurye County Office) in the quarterfinals and Han Yu-ran (Geoje City Office) in the semifinals to advance to the finals, where she defeated Kim Si-woo (Hwaseong City Office) 2-0 to claim the championship.

In the Gukhwa class, Eom Ha-jin (Gurye County Office), who had won the Gurye Women’s Cheonhajangsa Tournament, faced Kim Ju-yeon (Hwaseong City Office). Although she lost the first round, she won the second and third rounds consecutively, achieving back-to-back championships in two tournaments and emerging as a new powerhouse in the Gukhwa class.

Additionally, the Gurye County Office Ssireum Team achieved the best results by sweeping two of the three weight classes in this tournament, Maehwa and Gukhwa, and securing second place in the Mugunghwa class with Kim Da-young (Gurye County Office), thereby enhancing its status as the birthplace of women’s ssireum.
