Muan-gun Selected for Dalbit Nangman Beach Wolduhang Fishing Village New Deal 300

Securing 5 Billion Won in National and Provincial Funds for Infrastructure Maintenance

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 14th that Woldu Port in Hyeongyeong-myeon has been finally selected for the 2021 Fishing Village New Deal 300 public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The Fishing Village New Deal 300 public contest project is a program aimed at revitalizing fishing villages into vibrant and attractive spaces by utilizing various resources possessed by fishing villages such as islands, fishery resources, and natural scenery.

This project aims to improve living conditions by renovating outdated infrastructure, develop the tourism industry, and create new income bases for the region through strengthening residents' capabilities.

The county plans to invest a total of 6.3 billion KRW (including 5 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) over three years starting next year to renovate fishing port infrastructure such as extending the breakwater and opening an access road to Sodo fishing grounds, and to promote specialized projects for improving residents' quality of life and establishing tourism infrastructure, including building a fishermen's welfare center and refurbishing Dalbit Beach Park.

In addition, to foster key leaders and strengthen capabilities to drive the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, resident education will be conducted, and efforts will be made to develop a brand reflecting local characteristics to attract tourists and increase fishermen's income.

Governor Kim San said, “Through this Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, we will renovate the outdated fishing port to make Woldu Port a place where people want to live and visit,” and added, “We will do our best to prepare for the 2022 public contest project scheduled for next year to revitalize the stagnant fishing village and promote sustainable fishing village development.”
