Partnering with Small Enterprise and Market Service to Plan a Special Exhibition for Traditional Markets
Providing Up to 20,000 KRW Discount Coupons for Food at 600 Stores Across 43 Seoul Traditional Markets
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang Eats will hold a special online traditional market event until the 27th. Coupang announced on the 14th that Coupang Eats, a food delivery platform, and the Small Enterprise and Market Service under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups have joined hands to support traditional market merchants spending the year-end in difficult circumstances due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) by holding this special event.
This special event offers discount benefits worth 60 million KRW with the support of the Small Enterprise and Market Service. During the event period, customers using traditional market food delivery will receive discount coupons ranging from a minimum of 5,000 KRW to a maximum of 20,000 KRW. Coupang plans to support marketing activities including main advertisements to directly help increase sales for traditional market merchants. The order brokerage fee will also be waived.
A total of 43 traditional markets in Seoul, including Gwangjang Market in Jongno-gu, Gaepo Market in Gangnam-gu, and Namdaemun Market in Jung-gu, will participate in the special event, and consumers can enjoy traditional market foods from about 600 stores such as Bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), Yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), and Mandu (dumplings) through Coupang Eats.
Since September, Coupang Eats has been collaborating with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to build a win-win model by providing onboarding education, marketing costs, and order brokerage fee support to traditional market merchants unfamiliar with online delivery. Based on its know-how operating traditional markets in Seoul, Coupang Eats plans to expand the project to traditional markets in Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, and Busan.
Park Dae-joon, CEO of Coupang's New Business Division, said, "We prepared this special event to give some support to traditional market merchants who are having a difficult year-end due to COVID-19 and social distancing," adding, "We hope many people will experience not only the delicious food of traditional markets but also the warm hospitality through this special event."
