This is the first time that Japan's daily new cases have surpassed 3,000. The previous highest was 2,971 cases recorded on the 10th of this month. This indicates that the spread of COVID-19 is accelerating.

On the same day, Tokyo Metropolis also recorded 621 new cases, marking its highest number as well.
