Demonstrating Genius Across Various Fields Including Science and Music
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gimcheon City announced on the 11th that Park Jong-won (16), a first-year student at Gimcheon High School (a nationwide autonomous private high school), was selected as a recipient of the '2020 Korea Talent Award.'
The 'Korea Talent Award' is a talent development program initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity to discover and honor outstanding young talents who will lead the country and support their growth as future pillars of the nation.
Park Jong-won, who has shown exceptional curiosity since childhood, has been recognized for his outstanding abilities in the field of science, including the patent for the 'Upright egg box' and being the youngest recipient in the Science Information Mind category of the 'Proud Youth Award' held in Gangwon Province.
Park holds Level 1 certifications as a Big Data Expert and 3D Printing Instructor, boasts numerous achievements such as consecutive gold medals at the Korea Creative Invention Exhibition and the Invention Creativity Competition for two years, awards at the KYIC Korea Youth Invention Idea Competition, and the WICO World Invention Creativity Olympics.
In addition to the science field, he has played a role in promoting the '2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics' and raising awareness of Korea worldwide through various volunteer activities involving international exchanges with European countries such as France and Denmark. Recently, he also received an Excellence Award at the 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Youth Volunteer Ignite Competition.'
Self-taught in music theory, Park has composed and arranged original pieces performed on the piano. Based on his experience of discomfort from cold piano keys, he conceived an invention idea for a 'piano with keyboard temperature control' and is preparing to file a patent application, demonstrating his exceptional talents across diverse fields.
Park Jong-won expressed his ambitious aspiration, saying, "Through various experiences and challenges in the process of scientific and technological development via invention, I will become a talent leading Korea's science and technology sector in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
