Paldo Launches 'Teumsae Tteokbokki,' a Fusion of Teumsae Ramen and Tteokbokki

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Paldo is strengthening its attack on the convenience food market by launching new products using the ‘Teumsae Ramen’ brand.

On the 11th, Paldo announced that it will release ‘Teumsae Tteokbokki,’ which replicates the spicy flavor of Teumsae Ramen.

‘Teumsae Tteokbokki’ is a product that brings out the intense spiciness using Vietnamese Ha-nul-cho, the main ingredient of Teumsae Ramen. Additionally, it enhances umami and spiciness by adding red pepper powder, gochujang, and spicy seasoning powder. The rice cakes used are shelf-stable at room temperature, allowing consumers to enjoy the unique flavor of rice and a chewy texture.

The product can be enjoyed in various ways using the spicy broth. You can add toppings such as cheese, sausage, or triangular gimbap, or make fried rice, enabling you to create your own recipe according to your preference. As a cup-type product, it can be easily prepared by pouring hot water and microwaving for about 2 minutes, similar to cup noodles. A fork-spoon is included for convenient eating.

Kim Seong-hee, Paldo Brand Manager, said, “‘Teumsae Tteokbokki’ is a reinterpretation of ‘Teumsae Ramen,’ the epitome of spiciness, as a convenience food product. We plan to continue introducing various new products and recipes through ongoing communication with consumers.”

Meanwhile, Paldo’s ‘Teumsae Ramen,’ launched in 2009, is a commercialized version of a menu from a famous ramen restaurant in Myeongdong in 1981. It has gained absolute support from a dedicated fan base due to its distinctive intense spiciness. Last year, influenced by the modish consumer trend, it recorded a record-high average monthly sales of about 1.6 million units. In September this year, Paldo also introduced a new product, ‘Paldo Teumsae Ramen Stir-fried Noodles.’
