1,013 Participants in Seoul mVoting Online Poll... Hongje Yuyeon Development, Convergence Talent Center Opening, Public Night Pharmacy Operation Rank 1st to 3rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) recently conducted an online survey to review and summarize the district's achievements over the past year and announced the ‘Top 10 News of Seodaemun-gu’ on the 10th.
The voting, conducted through Seoul City's mVoting platform, saw participation from 1,013 residents and public officials, who selected three projects out of 26 proposed initiatives.
As a result, the ‘Public Art Project: Creation of Hongje Yuyeon’ received the highest vote share at 12.3%, ranking first.
Hongje Yuyeon is an art space opened in July this year beneath the Yujin Shopping Center, which had been closed for 50 years. Visitors can enjoy lighting art, installation art, media art, and sound art works along the 100 supporting pillars and water channels of the building.
Being an open space rather than a closed indoor area, it has been recognized as a new tourism and art resource for Seodaemun-gu, especially amid this year’s social distancing atmosphere.
Second place, with 8.5% of the votes, was the ‘Opening of Seodaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Center and Convergence Talent Education Center (49 Yeonhui-ro 36-gil).’ This facility, opened in June this year, offers education in virtual reality, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, big data, drones, Internet of Things, robotics, and 3D production to help students and residents cultivate future capabilities based on convergence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
The ‘Operation of Public Night Pharmacies’ ranked third with 7.6%. Implemented in September this year, it allows safe purchase of medicines even during late-night hours when pharmacies are usually closed.
At three participating local pharmacies, general medicines, quasi-drugs, and prescription medicines can be purchased until 1 a.m.
Following these were ▲Support for Small Business Owners to Overcome COVID-19 (5.8%) ▲Support for Wireless Infrastructure Installation in Schools (5.5%) ▲Creation of Autumn Fairy Tale Flower Path along Hongjecheon Stream (5.0%) ▲Operation of COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team (4.7%), which ranked fourth to seventh by narrow margins.
Additionally, ▲Support for Childcare Allowance for Women with Disabilities (4.0%) ▲Creation of the Unique Playground ‘Yaho Yaho’ (3.9%) ▲Operation of Solar-Powered LED Streetlight Smoking Cessation Guidance System (3.8%) ranked eighth to tenth.

Other initiatives such as the expansion of resident autonomy councils to all neighborhoods, establishment of Seodaemun Route 15 village bus line, dispatch of Teaching Assistants (TA) to schools for digital education, opening of the Natural Harmony Living Culture Center, and operation of resident autonomy schools were also well received, ranking 11th to 15th.
Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, “Although this year was challenging due to COVID-19, we were able to achieve results in various fields thanks to the cooperation and support of our residents. We plan to carefully examine the characteristics of projects that gained strong public sympathy and utilize them in future policy planning.”
