[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Gas Safety Corporation has stepped up to support the smooth operations of companies that struggled this year due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and Japan's export restrictions.

The Gas Safety Corporation announced on the 9th that it visited Solbrain, a hydrogen fluoride manufacturer, on the 6th.

Since last year, the corporation has worked closely with companies to respond to Japan's export restrictions on semiconductor-related chemicals by introducing a fast track (early inspection) system.

The fast track was applied to nine business sites including Solbrain, and 15 business sites were visited.

To protect the domestic semiconductor-related industry from Japan's export restrictions, the corporation has continued to provide fast track services and technical consultations this year as well.

The number of monitored business sites for export restrictions increased from 15 companies last year to 18 this year.

Through this, it contributed to stabilizing the supply of semiconductor production and related chemicals (such as hydrofluoric acid).

Additionally, during the early spread of COVID-19, it actively provided technical support to alleviate shortages of safety and quarantine supplies.

It directly identified manufacturers of COVID-19 safety and quarantine supplies handling hazardous chemicals.

Through continuous monitoring, it discussed cooperation plans such as chemical technology consulting.

As a result, it identified 15 companies, including the nanofiber manufacturer Lemon, as business sites eligible for corporate support and provided technical consultations before their first regular inspections.

It listened to on-site difficulties and responded to ensure there were no disruptions in the production of safety and quarantine supplies.

A corporation official stated, "We have participated in overcoming national crises through swift and proactive responses," adding, "In the event of future social crises, we will establish a crisis response system to realize social value as a public institution."
