GS25, Delivery Sales Increase During Social Distancing Level 2.5

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store GS25 announced on the 9th that sales and order volume of the ‘KakaoTalk Order’ service have surged following the announcement of the social distancing level escalation in the metropolitan area.


Examining the KakaoTalk Order performance over six days from the 3rd to the 8th of this month, GS25 found that compared to the period from November 26 to December 1, when the service was fully launched nationwide across 5,000 stores, sales and order volume increased by 71.3% and 74.7%, respectively.


Additionally, from the 6th to the 8th, the three days following the government’s announcement to raise the metropolitan area’s social distancing to level 2.5, KakaoTalk Order delivery service showed steady growth with sales up 122.9% and order volume up 129.5% compared to the same period the previous week.


GS25 interpreted the increase in related performance as a result of customers’ demand for daily necessities shifting to convenience store delivery services amid restrictions on the use of various facilities in daily life due to the social distancing level 2.5 measures applied until the end of the year in the metropolitan area. They analyzed that the simple and easy ordering system through KakaoTalk enhanced customer satisfaction and created synergy. Approximately 3.74 million customers have added the KakaoTalk Order channel as a friend.


Accordingly, GS25 is holding a special deal event from the 8th to the 21st of this month, offering lifestyle-related products such as ▲Nongshim) Shin Ramyun (bag) bundle ▲Seoul Milk 1L ▲Tempo) Super 10-pack ▲Kwangdong) Jeju Samdasoo 2L ▲Lotte) Chilsung Cider (can/bottle) ▲Crispy Fried Chicken, each limited to 1,000 to 1,500 units, at the price of 100 won.


The event products can be found daily from 12:00 AM on the event page of the KakaoTalk Order channel, and customers can purchase them at the discounted price of 100 won by downloading and applying the 100-won deal coupon when ordering. From the 8th, customers using KakaoTalk Order will receive GS25’s triangular kimbap character ‘Samgimi and Friends’ KakaoTalk emoticons. These are provided to the first 30,000 customers on a first-come, first-served basis.


Park Sang-wook, head of GS25’s marketing team, said, “We are expanding the delivery platform and related service scope so that customers do not face restrictions or difficulties in purchasing daily necessities in their daily lives due to the escalation and easing of social distancing guidelines.” He added, “Going forward, GS25 will focus on presenting enjoyable and diverse promotions that can comfort customers weary from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.”
