Graduates of the Asia Economy Education Center's Artificial Intelligence class won the Excellence Award at the '2020 Research Data and AI Analysis Utilization Competition' hosted by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI, President Choi Hee-yoon) on December 3rd.

The awarded LAB team (members Park Jae-yoon, An Hanna, Baek Ji-won, Lee Dae-geun) proposed "Improvement Plans for Traffic Efficiency and Safety in Daejeon Metropolitan City Based on OPENCV" by utilizing DataOn, the national research data platform. The 'DataOn' platform they used is designed to share and utilize all types of research data produced with direct investment from the national R&D budget on a single platform, enabling access to all national research data. The significance lies in obtaining results by using this platform.

The LAB team stated, "It was a valuable experience to work with big data that is not easily handled and to develop an improved AI model through direct training, which led to winning the Excellence Award." They added, "It was challenging because there was surprisingly little meaningful data available for actual use in each project, but through this opportunity, we hope that useful and good data will accumulate in DataOn and that it will continue to develop further."

Team member An Hanna shared, "Through the Asia Economy education program, I was able to skillfully apply various and unfamiliar latest technologies and libraries, and this award gave me the confidence to lead AI trends."

Meanwhile, a graduate team consisting of Kim Na-kyung and three others (Kim Geun-young, Jung Yoo-jung, Hwang Ho-sung) also participated in the competition with the theme "Optimization Model for Road Maintenance System," but unfortunately did not win any awards.

The course taken by the participating teams, "AI Deep Learning-Based Natural Language Processing Text Analyst Training Program," is part of the Ministry of Employment and Labor's "4th Industrial Revolution Leading Workforce Training" project. Including big data and cloud courses, it produced about 70 graduates this year. Currently, they are recruiting students for a 900-hour K-Digital AI practical course designed for non-majors.
