[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Duty Free announced on the 8th that it held a ‘Sharing Love Rice’ donation ceremony, donating 300 bags of rice along with handwritten letters filled with the hearts of its employees.

This donation was planned to support elderly people living alone who are struggling to make a living during the cold winter. Lotte Duty Free added more meaning to sharing by delivering bags of love rice in a relay format not only in the Seoul and Incheon metropolitan areas but also in Busan and Jeju, where its stores are located.

Since 2008 until last year, Lotte Duty Free employees have participated annually in briquette sharing volunteer activities to help neighbors have a warm winter. However, due to difficulties in group activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic this year, they shared warmth by writing handwritten letters as a ‘non-face-to-face’ volunteer activity.

The bags of rice and handwritten letters prepared with active participation from all employees will be donated together with the international relief and development NGO ‘Good People’ to senior welfare centers and senior support centers in Yaksu-dong, Seoul; Jung-gu, Incheon; Busan; and Jeju areas.

Lee Sang-jin, Head of Marketing Division at Lotte Duty Free, said, “We hope this small gift will help neighbors exhausted by COVID-19 spend a warm year-end,” and added, “Lotte Duty Free will continue to actively carry out mutual aid activities to contribute to our neighbors and local communities.”

Meanwhile, Lotte Duty Free is leading corporate social responsibility management by continuously practicing social contribution activities despite the impact of COVID-19, such as ▲ delivering hope-sharing gifts for patients at Bobath Children’s Clinic ▲ donating the ‘LDF Mind Quarantine Kit,’ consisting of tumblers, T-shirts, etc., made using proceeds from domestic customs clearance sales to the Korean Nurses Association ▲ sponsoring mind quarantine boxes for multicultural youth families in the Incheon area.
