[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] In the Russian Far East, a car got lost, and two young men were found trapped inside by the police. One was already deceased, and the other was barely rescued.
According to RIA Novosti and other sources on the 6th (local time), on the afternoon of the 5th, police in the Sakha (Yakutiya) Republic discovered a passenger car about 120 km from the Oymyakon area.
At the time of discovery, the exterior of the vehicle was frozen solid with snow and ice. The Sakha Republic has long been known for its extreme cold, and the Oymyakon area is known as the coldest inhabited place on earth, where nighttime temperatures can drop to minus 50 degrees Celsius.
According to the police, two young men were inside the car when it was found, and one had already died from the cold.
The other was found with frostbite on his hands and feet and showed no significant movement at the time of discovery, local media reported. The survivor was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police investigations revealed that the two, both 18 years old this year, had been traveling by car from Yakutsk City, the capital of the Sakha Republic, to Magadan Oblast on the 28th of last month when communication suddenly ceased.
They were subsequently listed as missing, and search efforts were conducted mainly by the local community.
The Russian Federal Investigative Committee is investigating the exact cause of the accident, believing that the two got lost, their car broke down, and they were trapped in extreme cold conditions, leading to their predicament.
