Enhancing Reliability of Nutritional and Functional Component Analysis of Local Agricultural Specialties
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced on the 6th that it has passed the internationally accredited proficiency test in food analysis (FAPAS), gaining international recognition for its vitamin B2 analysis technology.
FAPAS (Food Analysis Performance Assessment Scheme) is a representative international proficiency testing program in the field of agro-food chemical analysis, hosted by the UK Food and Environment Research Agency. It evaluates analytical capabilities in various areas including food nutritional components, food additives, and pesticide residues.
Due to its high international recognition and reliability, government agencies, private analysis institutions, and research institutes from around the world participate annually to verify their analytical capabilities. The pass rate for international certification in vitamin B2 analysis technology is only 59%.
With this vitamin B2 FAPAS certification, Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services is expected by Gyeongsangbuk-do to secure highly reliable data for nutritional component analysis of agricultural specialty products.
Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services is jointly conducting a project with the Rural Development Administration to analyze the nutritional components of over 600 food resources that are either not included in the national standard food composition table or newly developed and distributed.
Through this project, 43 types of nutritional components contained in agro-foods will be analyzed to build a national standard food composition database (DB), and the 10th edition of the national standard food composition table will be published. The national standard food composition table is used as basic data for nutrition education sites, diet programs, dietary counseling and patient meal development in hospitals, and for agricultural companies to display nutritional information.
Choi Ki-yeon, Director of Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services, stated, "We will continue to maintain world-class analytical capabilities to improve the reliability of functional component analysis of local agricultural products and provide highly reliable data to the national standard food composition table."
