[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the Gyeongbuk region has averaged 9 per day over the past week after recording double digits on the 28th of last month.


Following 17 cases on the 5th, 11 more were confirmed on the 6th (as of midnight), bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk region to 1,726 (including 103 imported cases).


The occurrence of confirmed cases continues mainly in Yeongju (3 cases), Gyeongju (3 cases), Gimcheon (2 cases), Gyeongsan (2 cases), and Pohang (1 case), where chain infections are ongoing linked to club meetings or family transmissions.


In Yeongju City, two contacts of local residents (cases 8 and 13) who were confirmed positive ten days ago and belong to a saxophone club tested positive in pre-release quarantine tests. Additionally, one resident who had close contact with a family member (case 17) confirmed positive the previous day was also diagnosed, increasing the cumulative confirmed cases in Yeongju to 19.


In Gyeongju City, two acquaintances who had contact with a resident confirmed positive on the 4th (case 124) and one family member of a resident confirmed positive a week ago (case 114) were newly confirmed, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 127.


In Gimcheon City, two local residents who had close contact with a resident confirmed positive three days ago (case 57) were confirmed positive. These confirmed cases reportedly used the same senior citizens' center. As of midnight on the 6th, the cumulative confirmed cases in Gimcheon stand at 65.


In Gyeongsan City, two individuals who entered from North America and Asia respectively were confirmed as imported cases, and in Pohang City, one person tested positive at a screening clinic during a COVID-19 test prior to employment. The cumulative confirmed cases in Gyeongsan and Pohang are 690 and 130, respectively.


In Gyeongbuk Province, 62 community infection cases have occurred over the past week, recording a weekly daily average of 8.9 cases.
