[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Andong City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 6th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the 2020 Public Sewer Operation and Management Performance Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Environment.

The Ministry of Environment conducts an annual Public Sewer Operation and Management Performance Evaluation to inspect the operation and management status of public sewer management authorities nationwide, aiming to establish a competitive sewer system and improve the efficiency of operation and management.

In Andong City, there are three public sewage treatment facilities with a daily treatment capacity of over 500 tons (Andong, Pungsan, Pungcheon) and 17 facilities with less than 500 tons (rural areas). These are entrusted and operated by the Andong City Facilities Management Corporation and the Korea Environment Corporation, respectively.

The evaluation divides 161 public sewer management authorities into four groups based on population, then conducts a first inspection and a second comprehensive review committee on a total of 33 items across three areas: common, operation management, and policy. Andong City, selected as an excellent institution in Group 2 (population between 100,000 and 300,000), was chosen as an excellent institution by the Ministry of Environment for two consecutive years following 2019.

An official from Andong City expressed joy, saying, "This excellent institution selection is the result of our continued efforts to improve sewage treatment and odor reduction, and it once again confirms the excellence of Andong City's public sewer maintenance and water quality management."
