[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] The number of new COVID-19 cases in Japan has remained in the 2,000s for five consecutive days.
According to NHK's tally on the 6th, 2,508 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed across Japan on the 5th.
As a result, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Japan has increased to 161,629.
Looking at the daily new cases in Japan recently, there were 2,028 on the 1st, 2,434 on the 2nd, 2,518 on the 3rd, and 2,442 on the 4th of this month.
By region, the number of new cases was highest in Tokyo with 584, followed by Osaka Prefecture with 399, Kanagawa Prefecture with 192, and Hokkaido with 183.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 22 to 2,341.
The number of severe cases was 520 as of the previous day, the highest since the spread of COVID-19.
