Review of Level 2 Social Distancing Across Gyeongnam Province... Possibility of 1,000 Cases per Day

Review of Level 2 Social Distancing Across Gyeongnam Province... Possibility of 1,000 Cases per Day Shin Jong-woo, Director of Welfare and Health Bureau, Gyeongnam Province.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongnam Province has raised its social distancing level as COVID-19 cases have occurred simultaneously in multiple locations.

On the 5th, Gyeongnam Province announced that it would discuss raising the social distancing level as the number of confirmed cases has recorded double digits daily over the past week.

The province explained that across the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, 500 to 600 confirmed cases have been reported daily over the past week, raising concerns about the possibility of reaching 1,000 cases per day.

Within the province, an average of 15.1 confirmed cases per day were reported between the 29th of last month and the 5th of this month. The range of occurrence has also expanded from 4 cities and counties in mid-last month to 11 cities and counties since the end of last month.

The province will gather opinions from cities and counties and consult with the Life Quarantine Council to discuss raising the social distancing level for the entire Gyeongnam area on the 6th.

In Gyeongnam, including Gimhae, where a cluster infection occurred at a senior day care center, social distancing will be raised to Level 2 from 0:00 on the 6th, applying Level 2 to four cities and counties including Changwon, Jinju, and Hadong.

The rest of Gyeongnam was already raised to social distancing Level 1.5 from noon on the 26th of last month.

Shin Jong-woo, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of the province, emphasized, “With students finishing the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and frequent gatherings during the year-end and New Year holidays, there is a great concern about the spread of COVID-19. Compliance with quarantine rules through solidarity and cooperation is the strongest force for the rapid end of COVID-19.”
