[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] In Gyeongnam, 17 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in a single day.
On the 5th, Gyeongnam Province announced in a briefing that since 5 p.m. the previous day, 17 confirmed cases occurred: 9 in Gimhae, 4 in Geoje, 2 in Changwon, 1 in Hadong, and 1 in Yangsan.
Most of the confirmed cases in Gimhae (numbers 695 to 700, and 702), including a woman in her 40s (Gyeongnam 693), had contact with confirmed cases at a senior day care center.
Except for case 693, a worker at the care center, and case 702, a family member, the other confirmed cases are cohabiting family members.
Among them, case 700, a middle school student in Gimhae who attended school until the 3rd, is currently undergoing testing along with students and staff.
The number of confirmed cases related to the Gimhae senior day care center has increased to 27. However, the infection route has still not been identified.
In Geoje, a man in his 40s with an unknown infection route tested positive and was classified as case 692.
Three people who had contact with this man, who works at a shipyard in Geoje?a woman in her 40s, a man in his 40s, and a man in his 30s?also tested positive and were classified as cases 706 to 708. The quarantine authorities have set up a screening clinic at this shipyard and are conducting tests on 441 employees and others.
A man in his 20s from Nepal residing in Gimhae (case 694) also tested positive. Case 694 entered Korea from Nepal on the 28th of last month and recently experienced COVID-19 symptoms, prompting testing.
In Changwon, a man and woman in their 60s who visited 'Sodap Pocha' on the 20th of last month (cases 704 and 705) tested positive. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to Sodap Pocha to 8 since the first case on the 21st of last month.
A man in his 60s residing in Hadong (case 701) and a foreign woman in her 30s residing in Yangsan (case 706) also tested positive. The infection route for case 701 is under investigation, and case 706 is the daughter-in-law of case 634, who was confirmed positive on the 1st and had been under self-quarantine.
The quarantine authorities are currently tracing the infection routes and contacts of the confirmed cases.
Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Gyeongnam Province has risen to 705 (240 hospitalized, 464 discharged, 1 deceased).
Shin Jong-woo, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of the province, emphasized, “This is a very dangerous situation where anyone can be infected with COVID-19 anytime and anywhere. Please refrain from gatherings and travel as much as possible and comply with quarantine rules such as wearing masks.”
