Animal Hospital States "Used Inappropriate Products to Remove Child's Inflammation Odor... Simply Sorry"
[Asia Economy Reporter Nahana] Medical staff at an animal hospital in Gwangju Metropolitan City were involved in an incident where they sprayed bathroom deodorizer and perfume on a puppy that had just finished surgery, abusing the animal.
On the 3rd, the owner of the affected pet dog posted on Instagram that their dog was humiliated by the animal hospital staff and died, sharing CCTV footage from the day of the incident. The footage shows medical staff spraying deodorizer on the puppy's face.
The pet owner said, "I trusted the hospital a lot, so I didn’t want to watch the CCTV, but when I brought the puppy home that night to say goodbye, there was such a strange scent and smell that it gave me a headache."
The owner appealed, "The puppy, who needed to have its body temperature raised after surgery and had a tube in its mouth, was bathed with waterless shampoo all over its face and body by the doctor, sprayed with bathroom deodorizer on its face, and had diffuser and perfume sprayed on it by the veterinary technicians. How could they do such things?"
They continued, "They sprayed deodorizer all over the puppy’s body and laughed as if it was funny... I cannot understand their behavior."
On the 4th, a post titled "Please severely punish the animal hospital in Gwangju Metropolitan City" was uploaded to the Blue House National Petition board.
The petitioner stated, "The animal hospital sprayed waterless shampoo, bathroom deodorizer, diffuser, and mist all over a small puppy weighing less than 1 kg after surgery," adding, "Eventually, this small puppy crossed the rainbow bridge. I hope such incidents never happen again."
As the controversy grew, the animal hospital responded in a comment, saying, "It was not a simple baby tooth extraction; all teeth behind the canine needed extraction due to anemia and exudate in the throat. The puppy recovered from anesthesia but showed some consciousness decline an hour and a half later, requiring emergency medication (pressor)."
They further explained, "During the recovery from anesthesia, the doctor combed the puppy to pay more attention to it, and there was no intention of abuse." They apologized, saying, "However, we are very sorry and sincerely regret using inappropriate products to remove the puppy’s inflammation odor."
However, as the controversy did not subside, on the 5th, the animal hospital issued a handwritten apology, stating, "We sincerely bow our heads and apologize to the puppy’s owner, the owners who trusted and visited our hospital, and all pet owners. We apologize for not properly checking the puppy’s condition after surgery, for actions that did not meet basic professional ethics, and for only lightly checking the puppy’s condition and just watching beside it. We bow our heads and apologize once again."
