19 Elderly Patients Overwhelmed at Gimhae Daycare Center... 33 Cases in Gyeongnam in One Day (Comprehensive) Kim Myung-seop, Spokesperson of Gyeongnam Province.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] In Gyeongnam, 33 people were confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in just one day.


As of 5 p.m. on the 4th, Gyeongsangnam-do announced that 33 confirmed cases occurred: 17 in Gimhae, 4 in Hadong, 5 in Changwon, 3 in Goseong, 1 in Geoje, 1 in Yangsan, 1 in Jinju, and 1 in Miryang.


The 17 confirmed cases in Gimhae came from a senior day care center attended by cases 656 (female in her 90s) and 657 (female in her 70s), who were confirmed the previous day with unknown infection routes.


The province closed the center and conducted a full investigation of 31 people, including 21 elderly and 10 staff members. As a result, 17 women tested positive: one in their 40s, three in their 50s, one in their 60s, three in their 70s, six in their 80s, and three in their 90s. They were classified as cases 667 through 683.


This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the Gimhae senior day care center to 19.


In Goseong, three people (Gyeongnam cases 659, 684?685) tested positive. Case 659 was a man in his 50s who had contact with case 650, confirmed in Changwon on the 2nd. Cases 684 and 685 are family members of case 659, who was confirmed at the senior care center. Notably, the Samsan-myeon Office in Goseong, where case 684 worked, was fully closed for the day.


Five additional cases were reported in Changwon, all family members. Three people?a man in his 30s, a woman in her 50s, and a young girl?who had contact with case 658, confirmed the previous day with an unknown infection route, tested positive and were classified as cases 664 through 666.


Additionally, a couple in their 70s related to the Changwon Sodap Pocha tested positive and were classified as cases 688 and 689. Case 689 was confirmed to have visited Sodap Pocha. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to Changwon Sodap Pocha to seven.


The four confirmed cases in Hadong were found to have had contact with Busan case 896, who is a family member.


In Yangsan, a woman in her 20s developed symptoms during self-quarantine and was classified as case 687.


In Geoje, a teenage middle school student was confirmed positive and classified as case 686. The infection route has not been identified.


One additional case was reported in Jinju. Case 682, a middle school student in Jinju, stayed in the school dormitory and attended school until the 2nd. The province has set up a screening clinic at the middle school and is conducting full testing of 132 people, including 60 students, 35 faculty members, and 28 others using the same building, including external instructors.


One more confirmed case related to the Jinju neighborhood leaders’ training was added. A woman in her 30s in Jinju tested positive during active monitoring and was classified as case 690. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the Jinju neighborhood leaders to 66.


In Miryang, a man in his 60s tested positive after contact with a confirmed case in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, and was classified as case 691.


Health authorities are investigating the infection routes and contacts of the confirmed cases.


Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 688 (228 hospitalized, 459 discharged, 1 deceased).


Gimhae, where 19 cases were linked to the senior day care center cluster and 26 cases occurred in the past week, will raise social distancing to level 2 starting at midnight on the 6th.


As of the 6th, the province will maintain level 2 social distancing in four areas: Changwon, Jinju, Gimhae, and Hadong, while the remaining 14 areas will maintain level 1.5.
