Large Supermarkets and Warehouse Discount Stores Operate Only Until 9 PM
Operation Hours of Enterprise Supermarkets (SSM) Vary by Store Size
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Following the Seoul Metropolitan Government's strengthened social distancing measures, the operating hours of large supermarkets in the city will be shortened to 9 PM starting from the 5th.
According to the distribution industry on the 4th, the operating hours of large supermarkets and some corporate supermarkets (SSM) in Seoul will be adjusted.
There are 64 large supermarkets in Seoul, including 30 Emart stores, 19 Homeplus stores, and 15 Lotte Mart stores. While these large supermarkets have been operating until 10 PM or midnight depending on the store, they will now shorten their hours under this new measure.
For SSMs such as Emart Everyday, Homeplus Express, and Lotte Super, some branches are exempt from operating hour restrictions depending on their store size. Seoul city allows small stores under 300㎡ (100 pyeong) to operate after 9 PM.
Complex shopping malls like Times Square, as well as warehouse discount stores such as Costco and Traders, will also operate only until 9 PM. Lotte Outlet Seoul Station branch will operate only until 9 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting from the 5th. Lotte Young Plaza will operate until 8 PM on weekdays and until 8:30 PM on weekends starting from the 5th.
