[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] BTS has ranked first in the duo/group category of the Billboard year-end 'Top Artist' chart in the United States.

According to the 2020 year-end chart announced by Billboard on the 3rd (local time), BTS took the top spot in the 'Top Artist - Duo/Group' category for the first time this year.

Previously, BTS ranked second for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019 in the 'Top Artist - Duo/Group' chart.

In 2017, The Chainsmokers, in 2018 Imagine Dragons, and in 2019 Jonas Brothers held the number one position.

Billboard stated, "It is the first time since One Direction (from the UK and Ireland) in 2014 and 2015 that a non-US team has topped the Top Duo/Group of the Year."

BTS ranked 18th overall in the 'Top Artist' year-end chart this year. They have also held the number one spot for four consecutive years in the 'Social 50 Artist' chart, which reflects social media influence.

BTS's single "Dynamite," which reached number one on Billboard's main singles chart 'Hot 100,' also entered the year-end comprehensive singles chart 'Hot 100 Songs' at 38th place.

"Dynamite" ranked first on the year-end 'Digital Song Sales' chart, which tracks digital music sales.

Additionally, BTS's fourth full-length album, "Map of the Soul: 7," ranked 20th on the year-end comprehensive album chart 'Billboard 200 Albums.'

On the 'Top Album Sales' chart, which is based on album sales, it ranked third behind Taylor Swift's "Folklore" and Harry Styles' "Fine Line."

According to Big Hit Entertainment, BTS ranked first in a total of seven categories, including the year-end 'Billboard 200 Artist Duo/Group,' 'Digital Song Sales Artist,' 'World Album Artist,' and 'World Album.'

Billboard releases year-end charts annually. This year's year-end chart was compiled by aggregating various chart performances from November 23 of last year to November 14 of this year.

The mini-album "BE" and its title track "Life Goes On," released on November 20, were not included in this aggregation.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights," which recently sparked controversy after being excluded from Grammy Awards nominations, proved to be the biggest hit of the year by ranking first on the 'Hot 100 Songs' chart.
