[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Myeong Hyun-gwan, the governor of Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 4th that he issued a public appeal to all residents on the 2nd to respond to the spread of COVID-19 during the year-end and New Year period, once again emphasizing the importance of residents adhering to infectious disease prevention guidelines such as practicing social distancing.

In his appeal to the residents, Governor Myeong stated, “As we enter the winter season, COVID-19 is rapidly spreading nationwide, and the third large wave is becoming a reality. Therefore, we will strongly enforce the social distancing level 1.5 quarantine measures.”

He especially urged residents to “reflect once again on whether we have been neglecting basic rules such as wearing masks, as Haenam has maintained a COVID-19 clean area despite increasing fatigue from over a year of quarantine efforts and growing complacency about infection risks.”

He continued, “Complacency can be the main cause of COVID-19 spread, so it is important to follow basic rules such as social distancing, wearing masks anytime and anywhere when going out, and getting tested promptly if suspicious symptoms appear.”

He also requested, “Please refrain from going out and visiting other regions, and send greetings for year-end gatherings such as farewell parties via phone or SNS in a non-face-to-face manner.”

Furthermore, he emphasized, “As cases of confirmed patients visiting Haenam have been frequently occurring recently, businesses and shops must strictly comply with operational rules such as wearing masks inside the premises and keeping visitor logs to protect the safety of the local community.”

Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan expressed his determination, saying, “With the year-end and New Year period beginning and university entrance exams such as the CSAT underway, this is the most critical time to prevent a large winter outbreak. We plan to mobilize all administrative power to protect the safety and daily lives of residents. Although it may be somewhat difficult and challenging, I ask you to trust and cooperate with the county and health authorities.”
