[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Jang Seon-ik, the eldest son of Jang Se-ju, chairman of Dongkuk Steel, has been promoted to executive director in charge of production at the Incheon plant. It is a tradition of the Dongkuk Steel owner family to take charge of the production site after holding key positions in the management strategy office.

Dongkuk Steel Group announced on the 4th that it has carried out the regular executive personnel appointments for 2021, including Dongkuk Steel and Intergis. In this personnel move, a total of six executives were appointed, including four promotions and two new appointments.

Despite the overall downturn in the steel industry caused by COVID-19 in 2020, Dongkuk Steel recorded stable management performance focused on profitability. Accordingly, Dongkuk Steel decided on this executive appointment with an emphasis on "change within stability" to solidify continuous performance creation and accelerate growth.

Executive Director Jang is the eldest son of Chairman Jang Se-ju and the great-grandson of the late honorary chairman Jang Kyung-ho, the founder. Born in 1982, he joined Dongkuk Steel's Strategic Management Office in January 2007. He worked as a resident officer at the U.S. and Japan subsidiaries, which are major export countries, and served in the Legal Team in 2015 and the Strategy Team in 2016. In 2016, he took on the role of Vision Team Leader (Director) in the Strategy Office, establishing his presence as an executive.

With his recent move to the executive position in charge of production at the Incheon plant, he is expected to oversee both overall management and the production site. A Dongkuk Steel official said, "He has experienced overall group management in the group's Strategy Office," adding, "Just as Chairman Jang Se-ju and Vice Chairman Jang Se-wook both gained experience on the production site, he has moved to the site to accumulate essential experience in steel manufacturing."
